Waited Two Years!

Ever since the 165 gr. 30 XCB bullet came out a few years ago I always wanted one for my 30 cal. rifles especially my 30-06 an 300 Sav. It's been a great cast bullet accuracy wise an for longer range shooting but the initial run of molds got scooped up before I could purchase one and the recent group buy over on Cast Boolits I didn't find out about till it was closed. I know Al always has some overuns so I've been keeping a close watch on his site an sure enough they showed up this week and I ordered mine this morning.

I ended up buying the 3 cavity gas check version and threw in a top punch as well for my RCBS lube sizer if I want to use it at some point. Al has many of his molds on special at the moment not sure how long that is going to last but you can use this discount code an get an extra 10% off ( flt001 ) My final cost on the mold, top punch and shipping was $78 can wait to cast up and shoot some of these bullets.

Their shipping department is really really slow?

They have a two-year backlog?

They cost so much it took two years to save up for it?

Two years to get a mold? Why?

I have a mold on order almost 3 months now. I no longer want it. 3 months is just way too long! And yes I did call 3 times and all I get it is in line to be made.

The mold in question hasn't been produced or available for purchase on the NOE site for a couple years, there may have been a couple version of the mold in other configurations like brass or plain base but thats not what I wanted. Only a recent group buy started over on Cast Boolits got the required number of molds ordered in various configurations to make it worth wild to do a production run but I missed the deadline and wasn't able be part of the group buy. I know Al always runs extras and put them up for sale on the site, so I've been keeping an eye out and sure enough over the 4th. they showed up on sale and I had a 10% off coupon to boot.

I know Al has always given me excellent service with any product he has in stock on his site and he ships fast. It takes 3 days once it posts as shipped to get to my home here in NC. Basically what it boils down to is if a particular mold or product is in stock you can get it fairly quickly but if it's not in stock there is no timeline when a given mold or product will be back in stock.

I believe Al's business is basically a family run operation and have no idea how many employees he actually has or how many CNC machines he has operating. His line of molds and other products are huge and I would imagine he keep a inventory of what sells the most in stock and produces various mold and other products when he get enough interest to make it worth his wild business wise.

Cast up about 150 of the 30 XCB bullets this morning. I only had a limited time today to work with them so I just coated about ten each using Super Durable Clear and Popping Silver Vein gas checked and sized them to see how they would turn out. I cast a random set of samples during the casting process and after they cooled I measure and weighed each set. The bullets across the sampling weighed between 167.0 and 167.3 grs. Two bullets from the mold using my micrometer measured .311" while the third bullet measured .311.5" The powder coating added around .002" to the diameter before sizing. I might, can get these bullets to work in my SKS and Mosin rifles as well which would be a bonus.
